In recent years, more and more reports on Mianshan Mountain have appeared on newspapers; and more and more people from all parts of the country have gone to Mr. Tianshan to appreciate the picturesque scenery of this ancient mountain.
In cool autumn, I paid another visit to Shanxi, a land which gathers many historical and cultural sites. I took my first trip to Jiexiu, a city at the southern end of the Central Shanxi Plain, to enjoy Mianshan Mountain in autumn.
After driving out of Taiyuan, my car ran to southwestwards. In early autumn, the willow trees were still green, and the leaves of poplar trees were dazzling under the sunshine. After a three-hour drive, a number of peaks suddenly came into sight on the vast land of Central Shanxi. Was it Mianshan Mountain well known in Chinese history?
Almost all the famous mountains in China have winding mountain highways. It is also true to Mianshan Mountain. But it is unusual that the mountain highway in Mianshan Mountain circles on the steep cliffs with the verticality of 90¡ã; and on the high mountain road, tourists can often see the vast plain at the foot of the mountain. The more surprising is the architectural structures in Mianshan Mountain, which are all built by the precipices, conforming to the shape of the mountain. Some of them take the precipices as the foundation and the highway as the roof. Though they are pressed by the wheels of vehicles all day long, they stand firm. In addition, we also saw some suspension temples and hanging ladders in the mountain, showing the shape of a Chinese character ¡°Ö®¡±, which could dimly seen at dusk, presenting a breathtaking scene.
